Where is the home office headed? – Telework vs. office

How common was Home Office among multinational companies maintaining large offices as a form of employment in Hungary in the days before the epidemic? - we can legitimately ask the question. Both employers and employees are aware that telecommuting can be beneficial for both parties. The employer gets rid of a relatively high cost ratio if he makes an agreement with a large number of his employees to work from home, while the employee can use the dead time of going to work for more useful activities and can perform his daily tasks in an apparent informality.

Home Office past

Nevertheless, it cannot simply be said that this legal relationship between employer and employee has been established in large numbers in our country. Experts also explain this by saying that the Hungarian corporate culture has not yet reached the level where the home office can take root. At the junior and middle management levels, the primary relationships of trust, which could be the basis of effective cooperation, have not yet developed. This can probably be justified by the words "You are in front of my eyes, that's why you work properly!" and "I see and supervise your work!" perception is still too strong. This fact is also shockingly supported by the fact that the newly appointed small or middle manager undergoes a sudden paradigm shift at the moment of his appointment, and the previously coveted work from home disintegrates like camphor, and immediately the "Lead and rule!" principle wins over him. In other words, an "anti-home office" layer is wedged between the employer and the employee group, which is only related to the position and not to the person holding the position.

In any case, the pandemic has now disrupted this situation. At the moment, due to coercion, a huge number of employees are working in their homes. As in our previous article we have already written that working at home has its advantages legal conditions both from the labor and occupational health and safety aspects. These regulators were tacitly canceled by the declared state of emergency and only for this period.

Vision

More precisely: the control of the personal and material conditions defined in the laws has been suspended. But what will happen after the emergency period? At the moment, the assumption is getting stronger that the tip of the scales will strongly tip towards working from home. In other words, the influence of the "anti-home office" layer, which affects the previous processes - precisely because this layer is currently also working from home - will be significantly reduced. The employees prove that during the emergency period, the quality of their remote work does not decrease one iota. Employers can make sure under harsh conditions that forced home working does not impair the previous quality. In other words, it can be predicted that, if not to the same extent as in the current period, this type of application will increase significantly compared to the period before the emergency.
