Occupational safety target inspection of baking and confectionery activities

According to a report by the Ministry of Finance, between May 6 and June 7, 2019, enterprises operating in the baking and confectionary industry throughout the country were subject to occupational health and safety target inspections.

The target inspection was justified by the fact that, due to the peculiarities of the baking and confectionery industry, employees are exposed to numerous accident hazards and health risks. In previous years, several severe amputation work accidents occurred during the activity.

Among the shortcomings is the lack of provision of personal protective equipment. 74% of employers is regulated in writing personal protective equipment allowance order. In the other cases, the regulation was not comprehensive, or the employer did not have such a document.

THE did not provide 2% for employees personal protective equipment that provides adequate protection against sources of danger. The inspections also revealed that the available personal protective equipment was used as intended by 99% of the employees.

Verified employers are crucial most of them (97%) provided occupational health care for employees.

However, only employers 79%-a determined in writing the order of job suitability tests, as well as his duties related to the tests, including the direction and frequency of the periodic job suitability tests.

Based on the results of the target inspection, the employers 29% did not, or did not fully, take care of occupational health and safety training for employees. The sources of danger and the way to protect against them, as well as the conditions for safe and health-free work, must be explained to the employees.

According to experience, some of the machines was not provided with adequate protection against penetration, or the openable protective cover (lid grille) lock didn't work. Thus, during their operation, the risk of being caught, drawn in, or twisted up could not be ruled out. THE kneading and mixing machines in a significant proportion (18%) was not designed adequate number and functioning emergency stop device.

The official inspection pointed out the importance of the functionality of the safety equipment, the importance of the employer's obligation to carry out regular inspections, as well as the improvement of the workers' attitude to occupational safety.
