The number of fatal work accidents in agriculture has decreased

In 2017, the Labor Protection Department of the Ministry of Finance announced a two-year national labor protection campaign under the title "Focus on agriculture - safety at work first". The basic objective of the campaign was to draw the attention of employers, employees and professionals operating in the sector to safe working conditions.

In 2016, there were 18 fatal work accidents in the agricultural sector. The results of the targeted occupational health and safety campaign were already reflected in the 2017 data. In the sector, the number of fatal work accidents decreased from 18 to 12 in one year, despite the fact that the number of employed people continued to increase. According to the data for 2018, the occupational accident indicators of the sector continued to improve. In 2018, the number of fatal work accidents decreased to 10.

During the campaign, the number of work accidents that took longer than three working days to recover also decreased continuously. In 2016, there were 837, in 2017, 654, and in 2018, 626 work accidents resulting in incapacity for work.

Although the two-year campaign has ended, the labor protection authority still treats agriculture as a particularly dangerous sector, and the elimination of deficiencies remains the focus of inspections. The protection of human life and safe working must be kept in mind by all players in the sector.
