Risk assessment service companies, according to which the employer, in compliance with the obligation prescribed by the Occupational Safety and Health Act, must have a risk assessment, which must qualitatively and, if necessary, quantify risks to workers' health and safety, especially with regard to work equipment, hazardous substances and mixtures loads and job creation.

Risk assessment is a key element of employer measures to prevent accidents at work and occupational diseases and to create safe and safe work.

What is a Risk Assessment?

Risk assessment is nothing more than the examination and auditing of a workplace, work process and the tools used for the work process.

Carrying out a risk assessment is a professional activity in occupational safety and health. The employer may entrust the performance of the risk assessment to an authorized occupational safety and occupational health professional employed in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act. The occupational health service provider and the occupational safety and health professional must work together to prepare a risk assessment, which will be authenticated by their signatures.

The employer is obliged to carry out the risk assessment, risk management and determination of preventive measures before the commencement of the activity, in justified cases, but at least every 3 years in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, unless otherwise provided. The following shall be considered as justified cases:

  • changes in the applied activity, technology, work equipment, way of working;
  • any changes related to the original activity, as a result of which the working conditions determining the health and safety of the employees may have changed - including the working climate, noise, vibration exposure, air conditions (gaseous, dust, fiber air pollutants qualitative or quantitative change;
  • the occurrence of an accident at work, increased exposure or occupational disease in connection with the deficiency of the applied activity, technology, work equipment, way of working, and,
  • if the risk assessment did not cover the aspect specified in the separate legislation.

Risk assessment and documentation

The risk assessment must be documented in all cases, even if the experts conclude during the survey and evaluation that the measures applied ensure the conditions of work that does not endanger health and is safe.

The documentation resulting from the risk assessment does not have the required formal requirements, but in terms of content at least the following must be recorded:

  • the date, place and subject of the risk assessment,
  • the identity of the evaluator;
  • hazard identification;
  • identification of those at risk and the number of people involved;
  • risk aggravating factors;
  • a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the risks and a determination of whether the conditions comply with the rules on occupational safety and health and whether it is ensured that the risks are maintained at an acceptable level;
  • the necessary preventive measures, the deadline and the designation of those responsible;
  • the planned next date for the risk assessment;
  • the date of the previous risk assessment.

The document must be kept by the employer for at least 5 years.

The employer must ensure that the results of the risk assessment are known to the employees and that their documentation is available at all times.
